Idioms
Idioms are phrases, or expressions which use language in an unusual way. If you don’t speak English and you are trying to learn, they can be very difficult to understand. They often have metaphorical meaning and their literal meaning can be quite strange.
Imagine you didn’t speak English and someone told you it was raining cats and dogs, or that they saw someone laughing their head off.
It’s raining cats and dogs.
He laughed his head off.
Phrases like these are called idioms or idiomatic expressions. Your homework today is to read the sentences from the book very carefully, and to find the idioms.

Listen to chapter 5 and we’ll do the comprehension questions tomorrow.
Don’t forget to finish The Tempest, if you haven’t already.

Peninsulas
Today we’re looking for 2 geographical regions in Europe. Both of these regions are peninsulas, which mean they stick out into the sea away from the mainland. They are the Scandinavian Peninsula and the Iberian Peninsula. Each of them is made up of more than one country. Use Google to find the peninsulas, and their countries, then label them on your map.
