English

Idioms II

Idioms are phrases, or expressions which use language in an unusual way. If you don’t speak English and you are trying to learn, they can be very difficult to understand. They often have metaphorical meaning and their literal meaning can be quite strange.

In The London Eye Mystery, the narrator Ted has Asperger’s Syndrome. As Ted puts it: his brain uses a different operating system, which means he sees things in a different way to most people. It also means that he understands language very literally, so idioms cause him some problems.

Today’s worksheet is a little trickier. You’re going to tell us what the idioms mean!

Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome

In this short film, the narrator Rosie, who herself has Asperger’s Syndrome, explains to us what Autism is. We hear from different people with different kinds of Autism and all the highs and lows of being Autistic.

Click on the picture below and scroll down to the third video – it will look like the picture, and is called ‘My Autism and Me‘. Watch the video, and answer the questions in J2homework.

Theme

Scandinavia

Iberia

You should have found out by now which countries make up the Scandinavian and Iberian Peninsulas. Our next task is to find out a little more about their geography. It was a little tricky, because depending on where you look, you could have different numbers of  countries.  We’ll go over our in class today.

If you have finished one of the peninsulas, you can try the other one today. Don’t forget to search for the actual countries, not the peninsulas, this way you will get more information.

There is a link for a an extra fact file at the bottom of the homework in case you need it.
