STEM ideas.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Carrying out STEM-based activities is a brilliant way to develop problem solving skills, encourage critical thinking and promote investigation.

Here are a list of suggested activities that you can choose from each day that can be carried out using items found around the home, such as shoeboxes, cardboard tubes and straws. Beneath each activity is a list of questions to prompt discussion and help your child to get the most out of this time.

Choose an activity, you can choose more than one or do all of them.  When you have completed it, made your choice, answer the questions in the comment section. Use a title so I know which one you chose to make.

Respond to the questions in the comment section below.

Draw the Venn diagram into your book; then look at the shape of the scrambled letters e.g the letter F. Does it have parallel lines? Does it a have at least one line of symmetry? sort the letters. respond to question 2 and 3 in the comments section below.

Use the prompt sheet choose a topic. It can be whatever you want it to be about. Write a non-chronological report or if you’re stuck for ideas, then research the Christian Aid Charity. A UK charity fighting global poverty.

Once you have written, edited and improved your writing (using year 6 writing expectations) type your final draft into the comments section, so we can all have a read and become your critical friend.
Critical friends, have a read and find 2 stars and 1 wish for the author.  remember to leave your initials so everyone knows who has contributed.

Christian Aid Week

Coin Challenge!

(measurement)

For this question, you will need a 10p coin and a 5p coin.

  • Two classes decided to have a competition to see who could raise the most money for Christian Aid Week by creating coin lines.

  • Class 6A collected 10p pieces and put them edge to edge to make a long line. The completed line was 25m long.

  • Class 6B collected 5p pieces and put them edge to edge to make a long line. Their completed line was 30m long.

Work out which class collected the most money.

Answer will be posted tomorrow.
