Bonjour

Year 5!

🙂

           Year 5’s third entry!

A big thank you to Fay for these pictures. I like the addition of ham to this one and a very healthy looking plant too. The first one we’ve seen! 🙂
Thank you to those who have sent in “Good Morning” in their langauge. I will start using them next week so please keep them coming.

“Quote of the Day” –  Handwriting Practice

Today’s quotes come from two poets. The first, we’ve heard from before: Maya Angelou. The new one is Warsan Shire (1988 – ). She is a British poet who was born in Kenya but her parents are from Somalia so she knows all about having more than one country. She has won several major awards for her poetry and in 2018 she became a fellow of the Royal Society for Literature. Her poems have been used by Beyoncé in her songs.

Today’s Question: Who is with Maya Angelou in the photo above?

Mrs. Devaney has very kindly done us some fabulous videos for handwriting practice so now we can see exactly how it should be done!

Music: ‘Kothbiro’ by Ayub Ogada from Kenya

Thank you Mrs. Devaney! 🙂

Ali’s Story

Now listen to Ali’s story. Imagine Ali came to St. Vincent’s. What would you do to make him feel welcome and safe? What would you do to give him hope and make him believe he had found a new home, to help him forget the pain that he has come from?

Think of the challenges he faces; the difficulty of not knowing the language. How can he make friends when he can’t speak the language? Everything around him is strange and new. How could you make it better for him?

Finally, finish the sentence below in your red books and then put it in an email to me. 🙂

If Ali came to my class, I would….
