“Quote of the Day” –  Handwriting Practice

G K Chesterton (1875 – 1936) was a writer, poet and philosopher. Chesterton was a great thinker and a genius at seeing what was true and what was not. Whenever he saw something that was wrong, he spoke out against it. For example, he was one of the first to understand how evil and dangerous Hitler was. Chesterton became a Catholic in 1922. It is a very strange thing about England that Chesterton is much more famous in America than he is here. There have even been calls for him to be made a saint. I’m not sure he would like that idea. Chesterton had a very big influence on C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien.

Music: ‘Nimrod’ by Edward Elgar, England’s most famous composer.

Can you think of something that is ‘right’ but people aren’t doing it? Or something that was very wrong, but lots of people did it anyway? This quote is telling us to listen to our conscience and do what is right, no matter what people say.

“Quote of the Day” – Handwriting Practice

In today’s quote, Greta Thunberg is commenting on how social media and our digital devices can change the way we live, and not in a good way. She is saying that the the real world where real things happen; important things, is not on our screens. It is easy to forget this sometimes. Think about yesterday’s quote from Confucius. Do you think he would agree with Greta? Is liking something on social media the same as actually doing something?

She has won several major awards for her poetry and in 2018 she became a fellow of the Royal Society for Literature. Her poems have been used by Beyoncé in her songs.

Mrs. Devaney has very kindly done us some fabulous videos for handwriting practice so now we can see exactly how it should be done!

“Quote of the Day” –  Handwriting Practice

Usain St. Leo Bolt (1986-  ), the Jamaican Olympic athlete is generally considered to be the greatest sprinter of all time. Although he retired from competition in 2017 he still holds the world record for the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay.
