..for being a supportive classmate and selflessly helping everyone’s learning and also for organising Year 5’s supreme effort against year 3 in the Times Table Rock Stars’ Tournament. Well done Omari! 🙂

“Quote of the Day” –  Handwriting Practice

Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) led an extraordinary life full of very difficult life lessons. Luckily for us, he thought about them a great deal and wrote about what those lessons taught him. This means we can share in his wisdom and hopefully learn from him.

“As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

Today’s Question: What does it mean to do something ‘unconsciously’? Click on the word if you’re not sure.

English – La Boite (The Box)

This is another great little animated film from France. Read the questions before you watch the film but don’t copy them out, just be sure to write sentence answers. In case you’ve forgotten the sentence stem:

I can tell that the man is …….. because he…

or

I can tell that the man is……. by the way he…

Try using both today. I hope you like it! 🙂

  1. How can you tell that the man is scared? Give two ways.
  2. How can you tell that the mouse is suspicious of the box? Give one way.
  3. How can you tell that the man is pleased with himself? Give two ways.
  4. How can you tell that the man is compassionate. Give two ways.
  5. How can you tell that by the end of the film, the mouse is learning to trust the man?
  6. What do you think might happen in the sequel, if there was one? (There isn’t!) 🙂

      1. hello Mr Ledger how are you doing i know i am late and i am sorry about that but unconsciously means without being aware of what you are doing . so in simpler words you have have no clue what you are doing ad you are lost basically . that is what i think unconsciously means !

        1. Hi Tanhia, thank you for your answer. The first bit’s absolutely right! And yes, you might have no clue what you’re doing but I think ‘lost’ is going too far. 🙂 So, in the quote, Nelson Mandela is saying that when you shine, you let other people shine too. That’s not what you meant to do, but it’s just another consequence that you didn’t plan and you might not even notice it’s happening – you’re not conscious of it.

You can be unconscious of much simpler things too. I often tap my fingers on the desk ‘unconsciously’. So, ‘I don’t know I’m doing it’. It might be really annoying for other people, but I’m ‘unconscious’ of that too, ‘I don’t know’ they’re annoyed. 🙂

Try and think of something you do unconsciously, or ‘without knowing you’re doing it.’
