Dip Dip Dipper!

After deciding what type of dips we liked last week, we tasted different things to dip with today! The children have been amazing at using vocabulary such as: salty, dry and crunchy to describe them.

Which dipper did you choose as your favourite?

Dip Dip Dippy!

This half term, we are doing our first Design Technology (D.T.) unit. We are focusing on food and dips in particular. We are planning to invite the parents in to taste are homemade dips whilst see our showcase of learning. Before we can make the dips, we need to work out what we like.

We tried: salsa, guacamole, cheese and chive dip, thousand island and hummus.

Which was your favourite dip and why?

Detecting wind direction

Now that the class have moved on to learning about weather in Science, they discovered how farmers, pilots and captains of boats work out the direction of the wind. They use a tool called Wind Socks. They children then made their own windsocks and took them outside to see if they could work out the direction of the wind. Unfortunately, the wind wasn’t very strong but it was just strong enough to work out the direction for about 2 minutes.

How does a wind sock show you the direction of the wind?

How do germs spread?

In science, Year 2 have been looking at human beings and what their needs are. They have also looked at how humans need to be hygienic to survive. This involved a fantastic experiment involving bread. We had 2 bags. One bag of bread we emptied and touched the pieces of bread, the other we didn’t. Can you see how much more mould is on the bread that was touched, after only a week.

What we learn about  hygiene in this experiment?

Our reading corner

Sometimes you just need to get comfy with a book. Our reading corner is a hit with the children.

Where do you like to read at home? I like to snuggle up on the sofa with a book and a cup of tea. Mrs Southall

Waterwall fun

Have you noticed our waterwall? The children enjoy trying to direct the water through the tubes and down into the tray at the bottom. It certainly takes teamwork so that you don’t get wet. Some children like to work together to get the teachers wet!
