We tweeted the author of our class story , How To Find Gold, and she replied! We are going to be working hard in Year 1 to write a similar story. We will then make them into books to send to Viviane Schwarz.
How exciting!

Today we have looked at the Part-Part-Whole model. We tried lots of different ways to make 10 only using 2 parts. Then we used fruit to group into 3 parts to make one whole. After that we used the model to write number sentences.
Finally we noticed that equals means ‘the same as’ so it can either way around like this…
2+2+2=6
6=2+2+2
Excellent work today Year 1!
After spending sometime thinking about Anna and Crocodiles adventure we discussed what they might need. Everybody said that they would need FOOD. Of course!
We did lots of talking to decide what type of food they would need. A healthy sandwich was the most important thing on our list to give them energy for their adventure. We spent Wednesday afternoon planning and drawing our sandwiches so that this afternoon, we could make them.
Using the sharp knifes and cheese graters were tricky but we were sensible with the equipment and used them correctly.
The sandwiches then went home so that we could taste them before writing to Anna and Crocodile to tell them how to make their own!
This morning we received a letter from Anna and Crocodile thanking us for our maps that we sent to them yesterday. They were so happy with them that they used all of our ideas to draw their own map to help them on their adventure! It was amazing to see how proud Crocodile was of his map
Today we we held our first Year 1 Phonics Stay and Play this year. They will be on every Thursday from 8.45-9.10 unless you’re told otherwise.
It was a lovely way to start our day. I think the children enjoyed sharing what they learn in phonics.
Thank you for coming. See you next week.
In maths this week we have been talking about greater than and less than. We have taken our learning further by having races and talking about ranking numbers: first, second and third.
What a fun way to learn!
We we have been sorting animals into groups!
We have been working with our partners to work out it what is greater than and less than. The children had 10 cubes between 2 of them. Then they split them into 2 parts. They worked out who had the greater amount and who had the least amount of cubes.
We have been working very hard!
We have been taking part in prayer services in Year 1 to help us to focus on asking God to be with us. We are learning about the Creation and what the Bible is trying to teach us.
In today’s prayer service we remembered what we were thankful for and tried to not compare it to what others have. We know that God only wants us to have what we need. Anything extra that we have, we should give it to those who do not have enough.
Yesterdays prayer service focused on being thankful for God has given to us. We thought about what we usually say to God and we realised that we are normally asking him for something. We spent time saying thank you to God for his wonderful world.
