This book is a tribute to Mick Manning’s father who was a rear gunner flyer bomber missions in the Second World War! In 1945 a soldier got smacked in the face with a piece of shrapnel in a plane crash and it broke his face and he ended up in the RAF Hospital. He smashed his jaw but almost lost his head. The Rear Gunners were nicknamed ‘Tail End Charlies’ because they were the crew members.

Hello everyone and happy world book day! Today we have been looking at a book named Tail End Charlie. This book is a boy’s retelling of his Dad’s story and what his dad has went through. This book is mainly based on Word War II and the RAF. Many people are not really keen on war books or it’s not really their type but the great thing about Tail End Charlie is that it deals with more than one theme. Tail End Charlie has war, friendship and surprisingly, romance! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a book but doesn’t know what to choose since Tail End Charlie has the everything.
