Hello Year 4!

I hope you are all well and have had a lovely Christmas and new Year. As you are aware we are in lockdown!  We will continue our learning journey this year with patience , perseverance and endurance, This time we are going to do things a bit differently. We will be using using the J2 homework tile on BGFL. I know some of you have used this before but for those who have not here is quick run down:

  2. Type in your log in details (everyone should have this) if not  let me know asap by email at s.khan@stvincnt.bham.sch.uk.

3. Click on J2 homework tile ( the tile is light green) . Take your time finding it as it can be a bit tricky at first. REMEMBER WE ARE ALL LEARNING TOGETHER!

4. Once you get the following page, click on the hyperlinked work, under my homework

.

5. Click on ‘go to homework’ then click ‘edit’ button on the top left hand corner of the page to insert your answers.

6. Following this you can edit the work and when complete the task you will need to click on the floppy disk icon towards the top to save your work, so I can mark it for you.

Wednesday 4th November

Math’s Task for today!

English

Re-read the story so far up to the page on which Jemmy Button is led through the forest.
Look at the illustration; reflect on and extend your previous ideas of
the ‘visitors’. Ask questions to prompt their thinking such as:
– Who are these people?
– Why have they come to the island?
– What do they think when they look at Jemmy Button?
– What does he think when he looks at them?
– Who or what is missing from this picture?

Key Questions:- What do you think your character might be thinking at this point in the story?
– Why are they thinking that?
– What do you think your character might be saying at this point in the story?
– Why are they saying that?
Justify your responses with evidence from the illustration.

Tuesday 3rd November

Hi Folks,

Activity 1: Re-watch the video recording of the story of ‘Jemmy Button’. Using this, record some ideas about how you think Jemmy felt moving to England? How was it similar/different to his home? How would you have felt being uprooted and moved to the other side of the world? Do you think he wanted to go? Why? Why not?

Activity 2: We would like you to write a diary entry from Jemmy’s point of view about how he feels at different points in the story. You may choose either option 1, option 2, or option 3. Consider how the author has used repetition. You may wish to include this style within your own work. Think about how you might convey how Jemmy is feeling through your vocabulary choices, perhaps you might refer to his senses too. Find ways to describe the location he is in to the reader. Option 1: Write about life in Tierra del Fuego before Jemmy gets on the boat to England. Think about how you will use sentence structures and vocabulary to convey how he feels about his home.

Option 2: The second entry should be written as he arrives in London and how out of place he feels. You should show the difference between how he feels in London compared to being at home through your choice of language and sentence structures.

Welcome to Year 4!!!

Hi Folks,

Hope you are all well and enjoying our learning. I am looking forward to all the exciting activities that we will be engaging in throughout the year.
