Houses of Parliament visit

36CA856F-87F8-48EB-879E-C42F7A1BEC9BThursday 24th October saw pupil parliament members going to London to visit the Houses of Parliament. We had a shirt stop to stretch our legs on the way …

When we arrived we went through security and started our tour of the House of Commons and House of Lords. It was very interesting. You are not allowed to take pictures in the Houses but we had a group photo in the great hall which is where the trial of Guy Fawkes took place.

We the went to the education centre to take part in a law and debating workshop. In small groups we thought of something we would like to make law: banning smoking, making food a set price for all, banning non electrical cars and lowering the age of voting to 8.we then voted on one subject to debate. The subject we decided to make a Bill on was banning all petrol and diesel cars. We we had a really good debate with Safwaan taking the lead role as Mr Speaker.

We voted not to pass the Bill but pretended to pass the Bill to the House of Lords.

Smurfit Kappa review

Aimr and Danayi joined myself and Mrs Stolban on a visit to the Smurfit Kappa paper mill. We reviewed the litter pick we did for World Clean Up Day and discussed with people from other schools and organisations how we can make Nechells cleaner. Our school has been placed in charge of bins in the local area and will be researching where bins need to be placed, how they can be made more appealing to use and ensuring they are emptied frequently enough. If you would like to get involved please come and see me.

Happy Healthy Holidays

A great summer was had by everyone who joined us at school during the holidays. We had lots of fun including going on a bear hunt, making pizzas and doing lots of activities and had visits from the animal man and our local Police Community Support Officer.

We also went on trips to Walsall Arboretum and Walsall Leather Museum, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and the Children’s Library, RAF Cosford and Sutton Park.
