The First Sunday of Lent

Listen to the reading.

Think about these questions…..

How was Noah loyal to God?

Why did Jesus go to the desert?

What did Jesus do in the desert?

I love the film below. It shows me hard life can be… for all of us but Jesus loves us. It was especially hard for him at this time….It is incredibly hard for us all now. Lockdown, online learning, online teaching, not seeing friends…. The light is coming though. Keep believing.

Thursday after Ash Wednesday

Take up your cross and follow Jesus.

Luke – Chapter 9 v 22-25

‘Jesus revealed what it takes to gain eternal life. Not even the whole world is enough to exchange it for. Following Jesus is not easy. It means carrying one’s cross daily…

Today’s Gospel made a lot of Jesus’ hearers, during His time, regard Him as a fool. Others who initially joined Him had a “realization” and deserted Him later. Still others hoped that He was for real, but later found Him unbelievable. But some remained for they did not have anyone to turn to. Even now, the same difficulties beset His followers.

So, where to? Will you also leave the Lord? Or do we respond like Peter, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.” Yes, eternal life is worth it. We have reasons to believe it is true. Life is too valuable to just die, become ash and become nothing or disappear. We have souls, to begin with. We have intellect and will. Certainly, the human person is the height of creation and was created in the image and likeness of God. God planned for us to join Him in His Kingdom. Let us join Him. No stone should be left unturned. No road untravelled. No sea not swam. No challenge not overcome. No sin unrepented and unforgiven. Nothing can separate us from God.

On this second day of Lent, we further commit ourselves to meet Jesus on Easter Day, converted and zealous to profess and defend our faith no matter what, no matter where, no matter when.
