Year 1 and 2 – Construction

This week, we have been continuing our theme topic – Homes around the world.

Children were asked to design a blue-print of what their home would look like and then went on to work in teams of 6 to build a Lego construction of their designs.

When asked, children said that, “we had lots of fun and worked well together in our teams.”

Below are some pictures of the children with their designs.

Home – Carson Ellis

Within our theme lessons we have been studying Home by Carson Ellie. The narrative looks at different types of homes.

Within our first week the children talked about their home, what they liked about it and how it was different to their friends homes. The children included some amazing vocabulary such as: detached, semi-detached, flat, bungalow and several others.

Following this, we researched different types of homes and the children wrote about their ‘ideal home’ including how many rooms it would have and how it was different from their home.

For our next lesson we are researching homes around the world!
